Samba is great for people that half multiple types of devices and content that they want easy access to on their home network. I get fantastic speeds through my gigabit route so it doesn't seem to slow anything down. The fact that it's proprietary makes them extremely universal. XBMC (or Kodi as it's called now) handles them well. My media box (popcorn hour a-400) handles SAMBA extremely well. We have a PC and a few laptops in the house and it makes it insane easy to access those files on other devices (using windows explorer or program). Also apparently stutters on high bit rate 1080p rips (again, reported by others). So, we have a Japanese piece of hardware that can't play multi language tracks (as reported by others, you can't select other languages) nor play subtitles? So, ripping my anime DVD collection into an MKV format will be pretty useless at this point. Just tested Mezzmo with my XB1 and that will play the ISOs transcoded by Mezzmo with full subtitle support streamed over my network! C'mon Sony.get on the ball.
